Hockey game board

One of a stack of low-budget board-type games. The basic story is here: Vintage Games and Playing Pieces. There’s a list of the games below.

For the TWO PLAYER Hockey board game, an ordinary deck of playing cards is used instead of the playing pieces that came with this set of board games. Players are instructed to place a marker, which represents the puck, in the center of the board. Players then choose their side; one to the blue, the other to the red side of the board.

After one player shuffles the deck, the other draws a card. If he draws a heart or a diamond, the red player starts. If he draws a spade or a club, the blue player starts. The starting player shuffles again and with the deck face down on the table, turns up the top card. The player whose color is turned up moves the puck toward his opponent’s goal. If he draws an Ace, he moves four (4) spaces; if he draws a picture card, he moves three (3) spaces; if he draws a ten, nine or eight, he moves two (2) spaces; and if he draws a lower number, he moves one (1) space.

The object is to make as many goals as possible. A goal is made by landing the puck on the “goal” space. Passing the goal does not count. A player has possession of the puck as long as he draws his color. Possession changes when color changes. After each goal, the puck is put in the center and the losing player draws first. The Player who makes five (5) goals first wins.
